Every once in a while the Photosapien is afforded to opportunity to shoot events that are of different customs. Let’s face it, I’d probably get bored of shooting if there was no spice to what ends up in front of my camera. It’s the equivalent of eating spaghetti and LOTS of meat sauce 365 days a year for lunch. Sure, it’d be great for the first 100 times but when you are rounding the 134th meal, you’d be ripping your tongue out due to boredom. Mix in a sweet little ulser as well.
Enter Nour and Suhlia. I was asked to shoot their Engagement party. They are from a Arabic background and this was the first (hopefully NOT the last) photo session with Arab people, they are amazingly fun!
This was not your average party. It was held at the West River Event Centre in Concord Ontario. First we had a grand entrance of the Groom to be and Bride to be. They were seated like royalty for everyone to see. Then people greeted them and then it was time to PARTY. Yep, any other party would have gone straight to the food but this was better. Instead of waiting for people to be belly full and sleepy, this crowd partied first and asked questions later.
Food time. I found a nice little spot and chowed down. I have NO IDEA what the official names of the food I was eating but whatever it was, I was loving it. I ate like I just finished a 30 day stint starving on the TV show Survivor. I would kick myself off the island for this food.
So it was time to head home but first MORE DANCING! I think 94% of the evening was spent on the dance floor which I loved watching. I’ll admit it was tough to behave, but it’s not the Photosapien’s first day at the rodeo so I kept it to a nice foot tap. A 46″ TV was set up to that family from “home” could Skype their way on to the dance floor.
Congrats to Nour and Suhlia. Wishing you all the best.
