There are 3 things I detest about the cold weather in general:
- The bitter coldness of Winter
- The Canadian reality that Winter lasts for seems like 9 months. (I’m over exaggerating for my American friends. Winter cold is only from Nov to March-ish.)
- Forgot to mention I hate ice, snow, hail, frozen limbs cuz they can break off at anytime.
So with this in mind, I hardly get out of my hibernation mode to have “fun”. I haven’t skated since Bill Cinton was in office. I haven’t gone tobogganing since Justin Bieber’s Dad was sweet talking his Mother. And I haven’t smiled outdoors during Winter since..you get the point.
BUT one thing is for sure, cold weather will not bully me out of an outdoor shoot! Here’s how you avoid cancelling your photo shoot because of the cold weather.
Gloves with finger tips cut off, long johns, scarf and camera keep me warm in these times.
In the sneak preview for Renee & Ken’s shoot, you will see a happy couple having fun on their shoot. Do they look cold? No. That’s because it’s not cold. So why did I go through all of this cold talk? I dunno, I just felt like it.
The point is that you can have fun and get great photos outdoors even if it’s close to zero degrees. Dress warm, take warm up breaks and keep moving! You’ll survive. Not to mention, have a solid plan before you step foot outside. Discuss the location, timing and plan it out with your Photographer (me). Nothing worse than realizing at the last minute that the family session with slow walking Aunt Gertrude is down a steep hill and that her walker is not a 4×4 drive (push).
Enjoy the pics.
