Hi friends.
New year new challenges and time to think about the last 365 days. Late in 2012 I participated in one of the most important photo shoots of my life that helped me think and be thankful for God’s many blessings on my life. I was involved in the Town of Newmarket’s first HELP Portrait session. HELP Portrait was a community initiative created by celebrity Photographer, Jeremy Cowart, that gives people who might need some assistance, a chance to get portraits taken of them and their families and prints are done on-site.
I say this was an important project for me because I spent the year shooting as part of my business but now it was time for me to give back. And it wasn’t just me, there were a team of other photogs, Make Up Artists, Hair Stylists and volunteers who spent the entire day beautifying, guiding, posing and photographing people. The ladies were especially happy to get all done up and show up in front of our cameras looking like rockstars! Some even posed like a rockstar would!
This experience gave me the opportunity to see people laugh and smile as they posed infront of a camera maybe for the first time. I also got the chance to meet some fantastic people in the photo community who are very passionate about their craft and helping others.
We set up extra early and there was a huge difference it seemed with the room where the Photographers and Make Up Artists were getting ready. The Make Up Artists were calm and moving like it was a rhythmic dance exercise, while us Photogs were all over the place bumping into each other like a herd of cattle that saw the lunch bell. Wait, they eat grass non? You get the point. But the Organizer Danielle and her team of volunteers kept us in check and the whole day went well. Not to forget about the yummy treats provided by sponsors like Tim Hortons and O’Malley’s Catering!
Congrats to the organizer Danielle Koren for offering me this opportunity and I can’t wait for next year!
Here’s a short video clip the shows some behind the scenes shot by Now Newmarket a division of Khamp Media (notice the Photosapien is the feature thumbnail! I had NO input in this believe me!).
