McGregor Family | Scarborough Ontario

In Portraits by Sheldon

Hey Folks.

Since we’ve had to endure 2 snow storms in the last month, I thought I’d inject a little sunshine in today’s post.

There’s a certain amount of excitement and anxiety that a Photographer will carry with them along with all of their gear when shooting in an unfamiliar location.  Will there be good lighting? Can I get the creative juices going in this setting?  What if, what if, what if….  More questions come at you than that old high school girl who needed to know if you are “going steady”.

My questions were answered the second I hopped out of the car to scout the locale.  Rouge Beach in Scarborough Ontario is practically home to me. I grew up here but rarely visited Scarborough’s sandy shores.  I knew the landscape and I have shot here MANY years ago when I was pretty new to photography.

Also familiar to me were the subjects of the shoot; the McGregor family.  I’ve known Aliya since elementary school since one of my best friends was her cousin. Her husband went to our elementary school but only for a short time and as he puts it, he spent most of his time in the office. Ha

They have a almost basketball team of kiddies.  Usually many kids can equal chaos on a shoot but as we discussed during our consultation, the parents brought PLENTY of props and that kept them busy. #PerfectClient

This shoot went according to plan except for the fact that I forgot I was going to be toes deep in sand so my white sneakers were not the BEST idea to wear coupled with my tender tootsies being stabbed by dull rocks and sticks.

I survived photographing familiar faces in a semi-familiar area.
